Sharon Thomas

Sharon undertook a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice in 1989 and was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of South Australia in 1989.  Sharon is also admitted to the High Court of Australia.

In 1990 Sharon commenced employment where she practiced in family law and assisted the Senior Partner in commercial matters.  Sharon was employed for 9 years and during that time became the Senior Family Lawyer at that firm.

In November 1999 Sharon commenced employment as a Registrar of the Family Court of Australia where she was employed until 2012.  Whilst Sharon was employed as a Registrar, she was responsible for the Family Court Management of Child Abuse matters (Magellan matters) at both state and national level.  In 2004 and 2005 Sharon was a member of the Judges’ Rules Committee and assisted in the drafting of Family Court Rules and Legislation.

During her employment at the Family Court, Sharon has received extensive and on-going training in the many legislative changes that have occurred in family law.  As part of her duties as a Registrar, Sharon conducted mediation on a daily basis and has had extensive and ongoing training in areas such as dispute resolution and negotiation techniques.  Sharon offers private mediation in family law matters in addition to practicing as our Senior Consultant.

Sharon returned to private practice in 2012 to establish her own boutique family law firm, practicing exclusively in family law.  Sharon has recently undertaken a further 2 year contract as a Judicial Registrar at the Family Court of Australia, undertaking parenting and property mediations.

Prior to Sharon returning to the Family Court in 2021 she was consistently nominated in the Doyle’s Guide as a leading and recommended solicitor in parenting and property matters.

Sharon understands that separation is a stressful and difficult time.  Sharon’s aim is to provide you with the necessary information and support to enable you to make informed decisions and to finalise your matter in a timely and cost-effective manner.

Sharon’s Areas of Practice

Family Law

Sharon practices in family law and assists with matters relating to parenting disputes, matrimonial and de facto complex property settlements.  Sharon is also able to provide advice and draft Binding Financial Agreements.

Sharon understands the complexities and emotional challenges that inevitably arise in family law matters.  She is committed to supporting her clients through this difficult time and is dedicated to ensuring that they have every opportunity to achieve a positive resolution.
